By now everyone should know that we will be discerning our future life together as a parish. All of the parishioners are welcome to attend the Saturday sessions for discernment. The dates are September 26 and November 14. The days will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude by 3:00 p.m. That should give us sufficient time for prayer, reflection
and discussion. In order to be properly prepared, we need to know who will be attending. Please call the rectory (353-7629) and leave a message with Tory Welling if you plan on attending September 26. A continental breakfast will be provided as well as a box lunch.
Because of the importance of this endeavor, the parish will not be conducting any other programs on these two Saturdays (Sept. 26 and Nov. 14). I realize other organizations associated with our parish may have activities planned like the Athletic teams and Scouts. I would simply ask those groups that have previously scheduled activities make sure some of their representatives join us in the cafeteria for the discernment weekend(s). We will again be hosting Affton Days on our property next Saturday, September 19. If you normally attend the 4:30 p.m. Mass, please be aware that parking will be a challenge. This is the time of year when the RCIA program normally begins. Nick and Stacey Gish are leading the Rite of Christian Initiation for our parish. We are meeting with three candidates who are inquiring to know more about our Catholic faith.
Tom Harmon is a parishioner of St. Dominic Savio. He was baptized Catholic, but received little formation in the faith until he attended St. Mary’s High School. He is married to Carrie and has two children. As a baptized Catholic, Tom will be completing his formation in the faith through his participation in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), in particular, he will be preparing for the Sacraments of Penance, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation.
Matt and Donna Dettlebach recently moved into the Affton area. They are both from different small towns in far western Kansas. Matt and Donna are married and have two children. Matt was baptized in the Church of the Nazarene and is preparing to make his Profession of Faith. He will enter into Full Communion with the Catholic Church by his reception of the Sacraments of Penance, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Donna is preparing for Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
Next Sunday, September 20th, is Catechetical Sunday during which we will give thanks to those catechists and teachers who share in the teaching office of the church. Anyone who teaches in a Catholic Elementary school, high school, PSR Program, or RCIA will receive a special blessing.
