Your Invited to Attend a Parish Vision Meeting!

Dear Parishioners of Saint Dominic Savio & Saint George,

ALL PARISHIONERS FROM BOTH PARISHES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND A PARISH VISION MEETING to hear more details about the current realities of our parishes as well as a proposed plan for moving forward. We value your input and ask your ideas on howto create a dynamic future for Catholics in this area.

I have been pastor of both St. Dominic and St. George since the parishes were ‘twinned’ in January. Fr. Robertson & Fr. Mike Lydon, as well as Deacon John Beckman and Deacon Len Siesel, were also assigned to work in both parishes as one ministry team. In June, continuing to build on St. George’s 2015 parish viability study, and St. Dominic’s 2015 viability and parish planning process which led to the successful incorporation of our school into Holy Cross Academy, the parish councils of St. George and St. Dominic Savio endorsed the creation of a Vision Team. The focus of the team was answering the question: How are we going to have a vibrant parish in five to ten years with the current demographic and financial realities as well as having one shared priest?

For the past twelve weeks, the Vision Team has been studying trends in the Catholic population and registered parishioners, programs, and facilities in both parishes to determine how the St. Dominic Savio and St. George Parish Community can collaborate on a 5-10 year plan of growth.

Data verifies that St. Dominic Savio and St. George parishes have been trending downward in Mass attendance and offertory gifts. Both parishes also struggle with a declining number of volunteers to run parish events. But there is reason for hope. Both parishes are centered in Catholic values founded in our Sacramental life and worship.

The Vision Team has discussed the need to create a vibrant Catholic Church that serves all people in our parishes, including outreach to the needy and those who have left the faith, and how we can build a vibrant parish life centered on meaningful, transformative worship and faith formation for all ages. We’re also working on the perpetuation of an operationally sound church that continues to practice good stewardship of the generous gifts of its people.

The Vision Team members believe that through the cooperative efforts of all St. Dominic Savio and St. George parishioners, we can build on our positive values, and reverse the negative trends, to create an atmosphere where the Catholic faith can not only survive, but thrive and grow!
