"In the beginning, God created heaven, and earth." (Genesis 1:1)
"God, infinitely perfect and blessed in Himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in His own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek Him, to know Him, to love Him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of His family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent His Son as Redeemer and Savior. In His Son and through Him, He invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, His adopted children and thus heirs of His blessed life." (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1)
Okay, we're Catholic; so what does that "truly" mean? It means...
We believe in the Trinity: three persons in one God.
We believe that Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity, has both a divine and a human nature.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is not merely the force of God the Father, the First Person of the Trinity, but He is God, the Third Person of the Trinity.
We believe that we are "only" saved through the grace of God.
We believe that three components comprise the complete Word of God: Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and the Magisterium of the Church.
We believe that Mary is the Mother of God, not just the mother of Jesus' human nature.
We believe that God established one, holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church upon the Rock: Saint Peter, our first pope.
We believe that God through His Church dispenses sacramental grace through the seven sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Matrimony, Holy Orders, Reconciliation, and Anointing of the Sick.
We believe in heaven, where we go if we die in God's grace.
We believe in hell, where we go if we die in a state of mortal sin.
We believe that we cannot live in the presence of God if our soul has venial sin or the temporal stain of confessed and absolved mortal sin; thus we believe that our souls are purified in purgatory before we go to our permanent home in heaven.
We believe that Satan exists and is determined to lure us away from God.
We believe that Jesus' passion, death, burial, and resurrection opened the gates to heaven, established God's kingdom on earth, and made possible our eternal salvation.
We believe that through Adam and Eve's disobedience to God, we were born with original sin.
We believe that original sin inclines us to commit personal sin.
We believe that the sacrament of Baptism cleanses us from original sin and reduces our inclination toward personal sin.
We believe that God, through Moses, gave us the Ten Commandments, not the ten suggestions; for Jesus said, "If you wish to enter into life, keep the Commandments."
We believe that God calls us to live the Beatitudes.
We believe that all human life is precious and sacred from conception until natural death.
We believe that the Body, Blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ are truly present in the Blessed Sacrament.
We believe in Mary's perpetual virginity and her bodily assumption into heaven.
We believe that she can intercede on our behalf with her Son.
We also believe in prayers to the saints in heaven who, like the Queen of All Saints, can intercede for us with Jesus.
We believe that Jesus gave His Apostles and their successors the authority to absolve us of our sins.
We believe that Jesus rejected divorce and remarriage.
We believe that the Holy Spirit protects the Pope from teaching falsely on issues of faith and morals.
We believe that Jesus died once for all and that He is not re-sacrificed at Mass.
We believe that redemptive suffering draws us closer to God.
We believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ at the end of time.
We believe that our God is a merciful God.
We believe that our God is a patient God.
We believe that God's love for us is infinite.
"'I want to see God' expresses the true desire of man. Thirst for God is quenched by the water of eternal life." (CCC 2557)
"The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all. Amen!" (Revelation 22:21)
